ACADEMIC YEAR 2008-09 WAIVERS

Eligible Catholic University Students may waive their CUA Student Medical Insurance Plan as long as they have alternative health insurance coverage that provides benefits that are equal to or better than the University plan.  The deadline to waive enrollment for the fall term 2008 is September 6, 2008.

Students will be enrolled in and charged for the CUA Student Medical Plan unless a waiver is obtained. Written evidence of alternate coverage must be provided to receive a waiver.

Persons who were enrolled by error may petition to waive late.  This is done on the Aetna Student Health website during the period between December 7, 2008 and February 14, 2009.  The waiver form is found at www.aetnastudenthealth.com.  Click on "Find Your School."  Enter Catholic University or our policy number which is 100109.  Once at the Catholic University web page, click on the "Waive" tab.  This will bring you to the form you must complete in order to waive the CUA Student Medical Insurance Plan.  The permium and late fee will both be removed from the student's student account within ten days of submitting the form.

The student medical plan charge is not refundable or transferable. A student incorrectly billed for the student medical plan must provide notification before the end of late registration of the semester in which the incorrect billing occurred.

Insurance Policy Review for International Students with Alternative Health Insurance

Once international students complete their online waiver, they are instructed to bring a copy of their alternative health insurance policies to CUA Student Medical Insurance Administrator.  In order for international students to complete the waiver process, they must provide a copy of the benefits provided by their alternative health insurance policy to the CUA Student Medical Insurance Plan Administrator for review.  He/She will check to see that the alternative health insurance policy meets all federal government requirements and that both repatriation and evacuation are covered.  A copy of the alternative health insurance policy benefits, written in English, and the corresponding insurance card are required for this review.  If you do not have a copy of your benefits, you should request a copy from the agent who sold you the policy.  Website descriptions of benefits may be used for this review as long as you present your health insurance ID Card.
